What role can materials, air and local resources play in architectural design?
To open season 8 of Com d’Archi, Anne-Charlotte Depondt welcomes Lucille Leyer and Romain Brochard, associate architects and founders of the Ylé practice. In this interview, recorded on 31 July 2026, they look back on their respective careers, their meeting at the Nantes School of Architecture and the founding of their practice in 2018.
Bio-based and geo-sourced materials, natural ventilation, passive cooling, rehabilitation and local expertise: through their projects, the two architects explain how these considerations are integrated from the earliest stages of the design process. They discuss, in particular, a music conservatory inspired by the world of burrows, dual-aspect housing, the Bordeaux Port Center and several school complexes.
A practical conversation about how to build in the face of climate change, but also about research, collective work and the many avenues that remain to be explored. An encounter that opens season 8 by taking a very concrete look at how we build today and how we will build tomorrow.
